Opera Nostalgia

What is this site about?
Well, the name says it all. We will remember singers from the past but we will also note today’s operatic news and discuss future plans of interest.

Nostalgia items is what we mainly offer though ranging from reviews of cd’s, books, dvd’s, photos, singer profiles, discographies and much more dealing with legendary and not so legendary singers of yesteryear and yes, today as well.

However, the site is 'nostalgic' in another sense: it doesn't seem to have been updated for several years. Nevertheless, there is quite a lot to explore that is still of interest.

Orchestral Concert CDs

Recordings of live orchestral concerts mainly given by Eastern European Orchestras in the 1960's and 1970's made by recording engineer Geoffrey Terry.

Despite the many years that have passed, the quality of sound is equal to any recordings available. Terry made the recordings with a method he calls Certified Natural Sound Technique Recording (CNSTR), using only two microphones positioned above and to the front of the orchestra. This is said to yield a much more naturalistic sound, nearer to the experience in the concert hall than conventional multi-mic recording.

Presto Music

Formerly known as Presto Classical, this is a website that speaks your language, 'underpinned by an evident love of music and the world of recordings' (Gramophone Magazine). You can easily find lists of composers' works, compare different options, view recommendations and read reviews. We believe that you will find it to be one of the most user-friendly classical music sites on the internet.

Launched in 2005, PristineClassical.com specialises in bringing classic historic recordings back to life using cutting edge digital technology and making them available as high quality downloads and on compact disc.

Ex-BBC senior sound engineer Andrew Rose, and historic-audio engineers Mark Obert-Thorn, Ward Marston and Peter Harrison, have built a large and rich catalogue of fine music recordings dating as far back as 1899, through the classic “golden age” of 78rpm recordings and on into the era of the LP and the early years of high fidelity stereo.

Each release is available for download at the highest possible audio quality, or can be streamed from their online player, or can be despatched to you on made-to-order CDs.

Or why not treat yourself to the entire Pristine catalogue on a USB pen drive for a mere €1,500? (Just be careful not to lose it down the sofa.)
